If you are changing foreign currency, make sure you are clear what rate of exchange you are getting before you hand over your money, and that you are aware of any fees and commissions that will be charged. Sometimes the advertised rate is only for large amounts, but this will not be pointed out to you until you query the rate you got.

If you are looking to open a bank account, either as a resident or non-resident, ask for written details of bank charges that will apply to your account. Unlike in Britain, Spanish banks tend to charge for just about every transaction, and it is best to be aware of this before it's too late.
