The
new Parque Bateria
(Battery Park) in the upper Montemar area of Torremolinos opened its
gates to the public in 2007. Consisting of approx. 74,000 square metres
of landscaped gardens, the park includes a boating lake, childrens play
area, pathways, bicycle & running tracks, as well as several
marble
fountains. There are many different species of trees & plants,
and
replicas of the original cannons & bunkers that were used in
this
area in the past, and from which the park derives it's name.

But
probably the most popular feature is the Torre Mirador, a 15 metre high
marble tower which can be scaled via a spiral staircase - or by the
lift for the less energetic! From the viewing platform at the top there
are spectactular views across Torremolinos, La Carihuela and the
Mediterranean Sea. The park entrance is located next to Montemar train
station. For those arriving by car, there is ample parking within the
gates. Work is in progress to build steps up to the park from Avenida
Carlotta Alesandri, the main road through Montemar between Torremolinos
and Benalmádena, which will make it easier to get to from the beach
areas.
